Coventry To Start Work East Of I-25 In Lone Tree

Coventry Development Corp. is poised to start developing more than 2,200 acres in the master-planned RidgeGate community on the east side of Interstate 25 now that the city of Lone Tree has approved planning documents to guide the process.

The 400-acre Lone Tree City Center and the 1,800-acre East Villages will be a walkable and bicycle-friendly urban center that can support up to 50,000 new jobs. Development will include a grid of streets and two light-rail stations on the Regional Transportation District’s Southeast Line, which is already under construction. The East Villages will be a series of three distinct residential neighborhoods with integrated commercial uses and an extensive park and open space network. The plan supports up to 10,000 residential units, which would more than double the population of Lone Tree to 40,000 residents.

“Lone Tree and RidgeGate have demonstrated what can be accomplished when a municipality and a community developer collaborate to achieve their goals,” Lone Tree Mayor Jackie Millet said. “In just 15 years, the RidgeGate West Village has enhanced the quality and character of our community with expanded employment, retail, recreational and cultural amenities. We are excited about the development opportunities on the east side of I-25 that will contribute to Lone Tree’s current reputation as a premier Colorado community.”

Development of the RidgeGate community on the east side of I-25 follows the near-completion of the RidgeGate West Village. The development of the 1-square-mile area started in 2003 with the Sky Ridge Medical Center. Today it includes the Charles Schwab Campus with 4,500 employees and more than 2,200 residential units that are home to more than 6,000 residents. RidgeGate’s West Village also includes two retail centers with more than 500K SF of office space, as well as amenities like the Lone Tree Recreation Center, a Douglas County Library branch and the Lone Tree Arts Center. Only a handful of development sites are available in the West Village.

Coventry Executive Vice President and Director of Development Keith Simon said RidgeGate East will follow the same deliberate and environmentally sensitive approach as the West Village.

“We are looking for placemaking and thoughtful urban design to be a hallmark of the continued development on the east side of I-25,” Simon said. “This means creating diversity and walkability with mixed-use districts and vibrancy with parks and plazas for outdoor movies, farmers markets and other community events.”
