The Legacy Senior Communities, a nonprofit charitable group, has broken ground on a $175M continuing care retirement community in North Dallas.

The Legacy Senior Communities, which opened Dallas Home For Jewish Aged in 1953, kicked off a $15M donor-driven capital campaign for the 10-acre Midtown campus in 2016. The facility, off Central Expressway at Royal Lane, is expected to deliver its apartment units in fall 2019 and additional rehab facilities in 2020.

Experts on senior living at the Bisnow Dallas Senior Living Event in January said the Dallas-Fort Worth region still has room to grow its senior living sector, despite appearances to the contrary.

"We see a real volume demographic and strong demand where folks who just traditionally want to stay at home, they now want to move out," Capitol Senior Housing founder Scott Stewart told attendees. "They want to be with like-minded folks ... and they're looking for a third act. They're not ready to mail it in. They're not ready to retire."

Legacy at Midtown Park, which joins the Legacy Willow Bend in Plano, will have a mix of continuing care options: 184 independent living apartments, 50 assisted living apartments, 36 memory care residences and 54 suites for short-term rehabilitation or long-term care.
