| You may not know Lyn Tile's name, but you know its work—like the Tower (former Bank One Tower) condos in Fort Worth. Times are a-changin', and tile contractors aren't exempt, says prez Meredith Ford (gray jacket), who laid out the trends for us (minus the grout). She says underlayments (i.e. the tiles' foundations) have improved greatly, making installation easier and the final product sturdier and less prone to cracking. Owners have shifted away from using just white 4"x4" tiles for designs and colors and are using more porcelain for its durability. The variety does make things trickier: Contractors need to be savvier to keep up with the plethora of products. Look for more development soon—projects Meredith bid on in ?08 are coming back for rebid. Current projects: the condos at the W Hotel in Austin and renovation of the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. |
| Here's a shot of the Tower we took last spring. If you don't remember, it was the former Bank One Tower (with the Reata at the top) until March 28, 2000, when an F3 tornado ripped through downtown Fort Worth about 6:15pm. The Bank One Tower was one of the worst victims of the damage. It sat vacant for several years because of the costs associated with the repairs until it opened in 2005 as condos. Look for more Lyn Tile development soon—projects Meredith bid on in ?08 are coming back for rebid.
