SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT: HILL & WILKINSON

Hill & Wilkinson biz dev manager John Riggins tells us the firm is coming off one of the greatest projects it’s ever done: the LEED Platinum certified UT Dallas Student Services Building (the first such project in the UT system). “We finished 2010 pretty strong—this project made 2010 look a little better in retrospect,” SVP Jeff Sanders tells us. Here's a sample of how it garnered Platinum: aggressive rainwater collection to ensure all irrigation and sewage conveyance used non-potable water, resulting in 86% reduction in potable water use; daylight harvesting through a central atrium helps reduce energy loads; solar hot water heating installed on the roof. Another cool fact: UT Dallas became the 13th university in the world to achieve LEED Platinum.

H&W also offered us a peek inside its BIM room (Building Information Modeling; that's one you should memorize). Looking ahead, John tells us “retail’s showing some signs of life, and we’ve seen some office build-to-suits come back into the market.” H&W itself is expanding two key areas: commissioning services andBIM. Jeff tells us a key to keeping business up in more difficult times has been H&W’s diversity, doing everything from commercialto retail, office, manufacturing, building envelope, municipal, and education. (The only thing they don’t do is single-family residential.) Learn more about the firm here, and catch them tonight as a sponsor of Bisnow’s Power Networking event. Last call to sign up!).
