Investigators Claim Texas AG Ken Paxton Helped Derail FBI Probe Into Austin Developer’s Business

More details around the allegedly unsavory relationship between Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Austin real estate developer Nate Paul were revealed Tuesday, marking the latest in a series of revelations ahead of Paxton’s historic impeachment trial.

New evidence provided by House impeachment managers shows Paxton worked to undermine a federal investigation into Paul’s business by giving Paul access to information he could use to “harass his enemies,” according to The Dallas Morning News.

Paxton covered his tracks using burner phones and secret email addresses, documents filed by the managers show.

In exchange, Paul remodeled Paxton’s home and helped him hide his extramarital affair, documents show. Paxton’s wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, was barred in late June from voting in her husband’s trial.

Paul rose to prominence about a decade ago for having a 9M SF property portfolio across downtown Austin, much of which he acquired on the cheap during the Global Financial Crisis. The World Class Capital CEO was indicted in early June on eight counts of felony financial crimes but has thus far denied any wrongdoing.

A grand jury is also reportedly looking into the relationship between Paul and Paxton, per the Austin American-Statesman.

Paxton’s lawyers have called for the case against him to be dismissed, claiming the 20 articles of impeachment are too vague, misinterpret state law and don’t constitute grounds for impeachment. His trial is set to begin Sept. 5.
