Bisnow’s DFW reporter Tonie Auer got a wild hare (or should it be wild hair?) up her laptop and decided to lop off her tresses and donate them to Locks of Love (which makes hairpieces for children suffering from long-term medical hair loss). She was motivated by her niece, Hannah Schafer, and friend, Cheryl Bourland, who cut and donated their hair to similar organizations. After watching her blog buddy, Kelly Currin, go through the Leukemia treatment-induced loss of her hair last year, the decision was cemented.

Tonie’s hometown paper (yes, some people still use ink), the Denton Record-Chronicle, documented the new do, too. Tonie is a childhood cancer survivor. “The idea that my hair will give a sick kid some self-confidence makes me happy to do it. Plus, I wanted something a little more professional as I go out to meet CRE leaders across the Metroplex,” she says. Hairdresser Keith Beauchamp says Tonie never shies from a challenge, whether it's coaching cheer, soccer, or baseball to helping kids out like this: "I bet we’ll see dozens of people follow her lead after this article comes out."
