Hudson Peters Commercial co-founder and principal Janice Peters joined the ranks of commercial real estate in Dallas-Fort Worth in 1983. With an extensive background in negotiation, tenant representation, sales and project leasing, she formed Hudson Peters Commercial in 2008 with partner Michelle Hudson and has never looked back.
Peters' secret sauce is the ability to maintain an independent spirit and to keep learning even with a treasure trove of expert knowledge already under her belt.

Bisnow: What did you dream of becoming as a child?
Peters: I wanted to own a boutique clothing store.
Bisnow: How does your current career feed that inner child inside of you?
Peters: I have always been independent, maybe because I was the youngest with three older brothers. They were intent on telling me what to do, and I was determined to do it my way. Real estate brokerage feeds my independent spirit and love of learning.
Bisnow: If you could teach women growing in the industry today just one thing, what would it be?
Peters: Don’t give up; it’s the tough days that produce the greatest rewards.
Bisnow: Who inspires you on a daily basis and why?
Peters: My business partner, Michelle Hudson; she is a big thinker.
My daughters: Erica, who is a third grade teacher and the 2019 Elementary Teacher of the Year for Richardson Independent School District, she is the most compassionate; and Brooke, who explored Nepal and Australia solo for 18 months working odd jobs (such as a ranger at a koala preserve) and for 10 days she meditated in total silence at a monastery in Nepal, she is the bravest.
Bisnow: What is your biggest career failure and what positive lessons did it teach you?
Peters: I worked in the computer industry for a corporation before my real estate career. Neither the industry or corporate mindset were a good fit for my personality; however, the sales training was a skill I knew I needed. I hung in until I finished an intense sales program which has been invaluable for my career.

Peters: Starting Hudson Peters Commercial with Michelle Hudson 11 years ago.
