COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

The Real Estate Council announced its 2011 Community Initiatives, investing $300k in cash leveraged by the pro bono professional services of its members. The initiatives commit to four key program areas: housingeducationjob creation, and the environment. Other partner organizations include ACCION Texas; Builders of Hope CDC; CitySquare (formerly Central Dallas Ministries); Family Gateway; Jubilee Park and Community Center; Operation Relief Center; The Dallas Foundation (Zero to Five Funders? Collaborative Fund); and Uplift Education.
TREC prez Linda McMahon tells us that TREC?s Research and Development Committee researched each organization to make sure that these initiatives fit within the program areas and provide a professional assistance component for members. The Builders of Hope CDC/Westmoreland master plan will receive $30k from TREC to provide green upgradesto new affordable homes being developed in the Westmoreland neighborhood. These funds will allow for almost 50% of the new homes to be built with green upgrades. The cost per home is approximately $4,000. TREC?s members will provide green building and construction consulting services.
