CRE Ice Bucket Challenges Skyrocket

If only real estate developments had the mindblowing momentum of viral philanthropy. (We'd have a lot more development, but it would all be soaking wet and cold.) As of today, the ALS Association has received $108.4M. Thanks for your contributions and for sending us your ALS Ice Bucket Challenges.

Let's just say Leopardo Construction folks put their hard hats together when coming up with this unique twist on the challenge. They're generously supporting the cause via the Leopardo Charitable Foundation, and CEO Jim Leopardo (above) nominates Sterling Bay, DuPage Medical Group, and CBRE's Todd Caruso to complete the challenge next.

In fact, Sterling Bay already responded with a hilarious homage to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, featuring Scott Goodman, Andy Gloor, and George Kohl. The firm is also making a donation, and nominates Four Corners Tavern Group and Pivot Design to get wet next. And they’d better hurry up, cause life moves pretty fast, as Ferris would say. Watch DuPage Medical Group’s Ice Bucket Challenge here.

Over at Essex Realty Group, principal Matt Welke looks like he got his supplies for the challenge from the kitchen. He nominates RP Fox and Associates' Mike Fox, Essex's Doug Fisher, Rockwell Partners' Jason Barnes, and Interforum Holdings' Alex Zdanov and Igor Blumin. Remember guys, you have 24 hours...

Harris Architects might have some trouble with countdowns, but this video kicks some AL-ass. The firm donated $100/employee (totaling $2,000) to support the cause, and nominates their civil engineers: Spaceco, Manhard Consulting, Kimely Horn & Associates, and Jacob & Hefner Associates to go next. Don't think you can back out because we're heading into the fall season.

LG Development Group partner Brian Goldberg tells us his firm is graciously donating $1,000 to support ALS research. His first nomination? His wife Lauren, who joins him in the video in solidarity. Brian also nominates his colleagues at LG: Amy Lusher, Marc Lifshin, and Barry Howard. Lauren nominates Lesley Stella and Edward Jones' Steve Schwartz.

Nominees: You all have 24 hours to send marissa.oberlander@bisnow.com a video of yourself completing the challenge (dumping a bucket of ice water on your head) and/or donate to the ALS Association. We'll post everyone's videos here. Some pointers:

  • If you're not YouTube inclined, just email the video to marissa.oberlander@bisnow.com and we'll take care of the rest.

  • We suggest nominating three commercial real estate folks outside of your firm to spread the love.

  • We'll help notify the nominees to ensure they're aware and their ice makers are full.

  • Good luck to all. Let's #StrikeOutALS!
