Top 100: For the Holidays

Our Top 100 Leaders series took us through Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, to visit senior managing directors Matt Lawton and Mike Kavenau; after that, a stop and chat with Studley's Joe Learner. We figure it's best to get through these before the recession is over and we have to get back to doing real work.
 

We snapped Matt and Mike in their 200 W. Madison offices yesterday morning. The two built the Chicago office from three employees and $300 million in transactions in September ?01 to 25 employees and $19.6 billion. Specializing just in investment sales and financing, they don't need to be the biggest as long as they can be  the best, Matt and Mike say: ?If we're picky about our people, we can get a lot of business done.? Even better, ?We're almost friends first and co-workers second in this office.? Almost?

 

Mike?s been with HFF for 21 years, starting in Boca Raton  before moving to help start the Chicago office. Matt had been one of CBRE's top multifamily sales pros, giving the team a balance of corporate and local market expertise right from the start. They tell us being able to provide lending for almost any sale  is a source of pride. Their biggest deal this year: $275 million in construction financing for the Marriott at 208 S. LaSalle. In their free time, both enjoy spending time with their families in the suburbs.
