The Builders Association gathered this month at the Drake Hotel to honor Chicagoland Construction Safety Council's Tom Broderick(center) with the Community Builder Award. Tom, here with Ryan Companies' Lynn Treat  and Builders Association prez Albert Leitschuh, organized the Construction Safety Expo & Conference in Rosemont, the largest event focused on safety this year.

George Sollitt Construction Company's Steve  Lenz and Brown & Momen Inc's Ernest Brown  flank another winner, Ujamaa Construction's Jimmy Akintonde, who won the Corporate Citizenship Award. Time for your daily Swahili lesson: We're told "Ujamaa" is a word for the Tanzanian concept of ?people working together.? And whatya know—Ujamaa worked with the Chicago schools  this year to place students with construction industry employees they could shadow.
