The $375M renovation of Wrigley Field and its surroundings might be heading into overtime. Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts announced Wednesday that the project could require one more year to complete. The major renovations were originally broken up into four offseason phases, beginning last fall and slated to wrap up by the 2018 season. Now Ricketts says the project could require a fifth offseason, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. A spokesman for Ricketts cited the challenges facing winter construction projects, such as frozen water pipes, as a cause of delays. This offseason, workers began restoring the stadium's bleachers, adding new restrooms, and laying the structural steel and concrete foundations for the next phase of renovations. Construction delays have already threatened to affect the Cubs' April 5 season opener, but Ricketts says the once-in-a-century renovations are his priority. [S-T]
