STICKING IT OUT

We had front row seats for all the floorburn and puck bruises at the fifth annual Aeron Chair Hockey event. The largest number of teams ever (28 groups of brokers, architects, and contractors) battled it out at Navy Pier Thursday night. Here's some of our friends fromLeopardo warming up before their third match of the tourney, playing on Aeron chairs, and banking the puck off cubicle walls from event organizer Interior Investments. Leopardo lost in the third round but won outside the rink by finishing construction on the 23k SF Mount Prospect Fire Station #14. The two-story building can house three trucks and seven firefighters. It's also built to Miami-Dade building standards, so it can withstand hurricane force winds—which might come in useful if we have another blizzard like this year's.
Here's OFS Brands' Janette Outlaw, Harley Ellis Devereaux'sEnrique Suarez, and Interior Investments' Michelle Weiner andBeth Fernandez cheering on their favorite teams. Michelle says the event raised $30k for the Special Olympics. The team that raised the most got a chance to play against the Windy City Rollers roller derby team at halftime. Professional installers from Interior Investments acted as the refs.
Partners By Design has had some big wins off the rink this year, too. The architecture firm is working on the build-out of Navistar's 1.5M SF office HQ in Lisle and 700k SF of its northwest suburban warehouse space. The firm recently hired two new senior designers.
We snapped VOA's Nick FawellMarina Panos, and Shawn Ursellduring a tight match in the later rounds. Shawn made her first business trip to China recently, where she's working on a mixed-use project in Shanghai. She and Nick also just got engaged. Congrats!
