Cohen Financial managing director Christopher Carroll took on that topic (and how to swim in them) at BOMA/Suburban Chicago's luncheon Thursday at the Rosewood Restaurant. He says that commercial real estate is starting to de-leverage, as opposed to "kicking the can down the road." But rents have remained steady around $25 in the CBD and $21.50 in the suburbs, which surprises Chris given high vacancy rates in many submarkets. Colliers reported overall suburban vacancy  at  23.6%.
We snapped Hill Mechanical Services' Ken Fresh, Mimosa Interior Landscapes' Paul Zaccarine, and Matting by Design's Max Andrews. Paul's company recently created plant gift baskets for building managers to give tenants, to show them how interior landscaping can add to their office. To meet LEED standards, Max's company is working with Shaw Industries to create a new matting that is made out of 80% recycled plastic bottles.
