More than 200 real estate folks gathered last week for the third annual Real Estate Ends Homelessness at Castle Nightclub (sponsored by Golub & Co and Midwest Energy). Prasan, a board member of the evening's beneficiary, 100-year-old non-profit ReVive Center for Housing and Healing, tells us he started the event three years ago for the industry to give back. Chicago had over 110,000 homeless last year, and the number keeps growing. This year attendees raised a record-breaking $45,000 for the cause, he says. Akara Partners even pledged to help create affordable and permanent supportive housing in attendee Ald. Walter Burnett, Jr.’s ward (27th).

Here’s the Build a Better Shelter contest, above. Based out of its permanent supportive housing complex on Ogden in the West Loop, ReVive continues to take homeless individuals and families off the street, providing a stable environment that allows most to go out on their own within 18 months, Prasan says. At the office, he’s in the design phase of a 40-story multifamily tower at 1001 S State in the South Loop, expected to break ground in the second half of this year.
