But it may have met its own demise after the Village of Lincolnwood won its court order to demolish the property under theIllinois Demolition Act. |
| Holland & Knight's Steve Elrod, who repped the Village, says the Act is mainly meant to help municipalities tear down unsafe two-flats or single-family homes. But after the Purple Hotel violated 31 building and property maintenance code provisions this year, the village filed complaint against the owner, Village Resorts Inc. If the owner doesn't repair the deteriorations or demolish the hotel itself by Aug. 1, Lincolnwood may demolish it at the owner's expense. Steve says the ruling is bittersweet for many Lincolnwood residents who enjoy the hotel's lore, but would rather see development instead of blight at the prime intersection of Touhy and Lincoln. |
