Millennium Park, The Daley Center, and the new Astellas North American HQ being built just off of 94 and Willow Road: What do they have in common? (Hint: they weren't all in movies with Kevin Bacon.) They're managed by MB Real Estate. MBRES' Kevin Purcell says management challenges have been growing for his team, which is taking care of about 12M SF in Chicago and 18M SF across the country. The new 440k SF Astellas HQ will go under MBRES' supervision when it's finished next year (MBRES' project services team is overseeing the development). Kevin's also busy laying out plans for the G8 Summit, which comes to Chicago in May and will require his buildings to have additional security and emergency plans for the world leaders who will occupy them.
But there's a fun side to the property management business. We snapped MBRES' Alma Becerra showing off the new pink paper towels at 230 W Monroe. MBRES bought the towels from Pink Paper, which donates a portion of their profits to the Susan G Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society for breast cancer awareness. Alma says the paper towels have gotten a great reaction from the 12,500 people who work in participating buildings MBRES manages. The company has also raised money through Lee National Denim Day, in which employees made a $5 donation to wear jeans on Oct. 7.
