| In its mission to become a high-speed rail hub, Chicago gained another spoke this week. US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced a $196.5M grant to the State of Michigan that will speed trains up to 110 mph between The Windy City and Detroit. |
| To accommodate more commuters, Union Station is getting $40M of improvements to its HVAC system and seating from Amtrak funds. Another $286.2M for will go toward quick acceleration cars. With the new high-speed rail, it'll take just five hours to get to Detroit. Stops along the way include Michigan and Indiana college towns and tourist draws, like Michigan City, Kalamazoo, and Ann Arbor.
