| The Hyatt Center a t 71 S. Wacker could have achieved LEED Gold within a short period and minimal effort, says Jones Lang LaSalle's Betty Casties. But Frank Mon challenged the team to pursue LEED Platinum instead. Eighteen months later (gold medal training seems easier), with help from JLL’s Dean Cichon, Rick Muhr, and Jessica Entingh, Hyatt Center became the largest Platinum building in the city and may be the largest, multi-tenant building in the country or even the world at 1.5M SF. The 48-story building has more than 45 tenants from which Dean organized a green committee to encourage sustainability efforts through the building recycling program, tracking of sustainable purchases, and two LEED surveys: one on how employees get to work (90% use alternate transportation to cars) and one on tenant comfort. | |
| JLL built out two sustainable spec suites like the one above to encourage new leases and showcase the building’s sustainable interior finish options. Both spaces are already leased, as is 95% of the building. The team increased its EnergyStar rating from 79 to 86, mostly by checking through 2,000 points on the building's automation system to make sure the HVAC was performing up to snuff. They also installed LED lighting in the 31 passenger elevators and a high-speed dock door to reduce energy. |
