A former Chicago real estate executive pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy at a Life Time fitness center in suburban Northbrook in 2024.

Michael A. Tobin, 73, was convicted on two felony counts of criminal sexual abuse and aggravated battery in Cook County Circuit Court in February, the village of Northbrook stated in a press release. He was sentenced to 24 months' probation and must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Tobin most recently worked as the senior vice president of real estate and construction at Rush Street Gaming from December 2019 to December 2024, according to his LinkedIn. He also worked as a managing director at CBRE for five years after his previous company, U.S. Equities Realty, was purchased by the firm in 2014, according to Crain's Chicago Business.
Tobin worked on major projects throughout Chicago during his career, including the development of the world's largest Starbucks on the Magnificent Mile and the expansion of the Steppenwolf Theatre, according to a biography. He also worked on the University of Chicago Medical building, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Chicago Architecture Center.
The incident took place at the Life Time fitness center at 1100 Skokie Blvd. in Northbrook on July 6, 2024. The release did not disclose details but said the investigation began when the victim told his mother about the abuse, and she called 911.
As part of his sentence, Tobin must also complete sex offender treatment and pay court fees totaling just over $1,600, a spokesperson for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office told the Chicago Tribune.
Northbrook police are asking anyone who believes they or a family member may have been abused by Tobin to contact the department or their local law enforcement agency.
