| The Illini Real Estate Forum (IREF, formerly UIRE) held its sixth annual Monopoly Night (as in the board game) last night at 353 N Clark. You'd expect a gathering of real estate talent like that to spend time investigating some age-old questions, such as whether Boardwalk and Park Placeare really worth the trouble; the relative value of railroads vs. utilities; and of course, "Should Free Parking involve some kind of jackpot?" But no—it was an evening of good-natured (and short) Monopoly playing and networking. Bisnow stopped by and spoke with Roger E. Cannaday (right), acting director of the university's Office of Real Estate Research, sitting here with son Sean Cannaday, a Situs Cos managing director. The university's real estate program continues to expand, he says; this spring will see the introduction of a new class on real estate investment analysis, taught by Mallon & Associates' Michael Mallon. | |

In the center is Minah Hall, managing director of True Partners Consulting, who knows the ins and outs—and there are a lot of them—of state and local incentives for relocating business (True Partners bought the food, also winning praise). On the left is Jonathon Cordell, senior director at Tishman Speyer, who helped organized the event and awarded prizes to the best Monopolists, such as Illini-themed t-shirts and baseball caps (but none with the distinctive Bisnow logo. Maybe next year). |
