The City Council has approved plans to put an Ace Hotel in Fulton Market, a growing commercial and tech hub on the city's Near West Side with few hotel options. Those plans involve rezoning land from a planned manufacturing district. The rezoning of the Ace Hotel site, proposed by developer Sterling Bay, could pave the way for developers in other areas of the city to push for commercial and residential development in other planned manufacturing districts, most notably the Finkl & Sons site, according to Curbed. The PMDs are designed to spur job growth, advocates say, and have been successful along the Kinzie Corridor and east of Ogden Avenue. [Curbed]
