#CRE On Social Media

While some of the loudest voices on social media may belong to Kim Kardashian and Jimmy Fallon, we’re certain Chicago commercial real estate folks are closing more deals. We asked around to see how you're using it. JLL VP Bobby Goodman (@techREguy, snapped with his mom and sister) tells us following news on Twitter has served him well from a biz dev standpoint. He follows companies and niche pubs in his industry (tech, trading, banking), and sees news items hit Twitter before the conventional news sites, giving him a valuable time advantage when chasing down a new prospect. Once you’re a Twitter step ahead on the news, what’s next?

More immediate gratification on LinkedIn, where you can find the parties involved and figure out your connections. Bobby’s developed good pieces of business through these channels, mentioning one LinkedIn situation where a client’s former colleague was looking to expand his new company into Chicago. Bobby won the deal thanks to social media magic. It all boils down to a strategic presence and time management, he says, since social networks can easily become time sucks. His tips: establish boundaries, don’t embarrass your company/yourself, and don’t underestimate the power of social. Are you or someone you know a #CRE social media whiz?
