| St. Louis-based Clayco Construction is making a big move into the City of Big Shoulders. The general contractor is adding a 20-person office at 35 E. Wacker to add to its existing Oak Brook office and help with downtown urban projects. | |
| Clayco's Cassandra Francis, here with Bob Clark, Cynthia Schuessler, and Danielle Wagner will head up the office, which is taking a full floor at the Jeweler's building. Bob says bringing the firm into the city will give them a great base for the large projects they like working on, like their current renovation of Presidential Towers, as well as access to a great transportation hub to get to other important projects throughout the country. Cassandra joined the team from Chicago 2016, where she played a major role in planning the Olympic Village, a site that still has the potential to become a huge housing campus or even a Presidential Library. | |
| In the downtown market, Clayco plans to focus on healthcare and higher ed. It's in the process of constructing new dorms at the U of I and recently completed a 90k SF project for the NCSA. Clayco has been innovative with its healthcare construction, even shadowing nurses to better design floorplans and not allowing workers to wear boots or construction helmets around patients, to reduce stress. They've also tried to re-think contracts, creating documents that allow subcontractors to be stakeholders, too. | |
