| Perhaps we should've titled this Architect Idol? To mark 100 years, AIA held a design contest for a memorial to legendary Chicago planner and architect Daniel Burnham. David Woodhouse, no architectural slouch himself, won for a design that centers around an element called The Corner; it presents two walls that don't quite meet at the southeast corner of Grant Park near Roosevelt Road. They'll be adorned with Burnham's original city plan maps, and a statue of him will ?show? visitors his plan. |
| This Field Museum model reveals more plans: a pathway leading from the pedestrian underpass beneath Lakeshore Drive and a curved wall showing other architects and planners that contributed to the Chicago skyline you see through the gap in The Corner. David's associates Brian Foote and Andy Tinucci helped him on the plan for six grueling weeks; to be fair, probably much shorter than Burnham spent on Chicago. |
