Broker 16" Softball Weekly Roundup

Player of the Week: Tom Berarducci, playing for Klein’s Corporate, went 4-4, with four RBIs, three runs scored and sparkling defense at third in defeating unbeaten Colliers 18-8.

Off the field: Tom’s a downtown and suburban office specialist at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

Postgame Schmooze: The brokers had a large time at Gamekeepers, as they always do. The sponsors: Sonoma Construction led by Jon Runquist; Vortex Flooring, led by Randy Rich; and Right Size Facility Performance, led by Mason Awtry. Also, a final reminder: The first annual DRESL Idol Karaoke competition will be July 23.

FIELD 1 (EARLY GAME): MID AMERICA 9, BRADFORD ALLEN 8
It was an extra-inning thriller as BA gave the retailers a fright in a back-and-forth battle in an old-fashioned, knock-down, drag-out contest. At the end, BA was hoping for a miracle to get them to the ninth, but it was not to be. Ken Smallwood stroked a laser to the gap and the randy retailers carded a win. Other hitting stars for MA were Stephen Ansani, 3-5, three runs scored, while Chris Matthews and Jose Gonzalez each went 3-4.

FIELD 1: J.F. McKINNEY 8, CUSHMAN & WAKEFIELD 5
John Norris
played impressively in the field for C&W, but the team needed heavier lumber at the plate to counterbalance JFM’s sparkling defense, led by Tommy Koleno and Vinnie D’Amico.

FIELD 2: UGL SERVICES 16, MB REAL ESTATE 4
UGL continues to contend for the Ducharme Division crown. They bagged a convincing victory over an erratic MB. It began as a tight game with the lead changing hands a few times, but then UGL erupted for six in the bottom of the third and continued on until they pushed 16 across with a balanced attack led by captain Andy Gooliak with 3-4, four ribbies and two runs scored.

FIELD 3: TISHMAN SPEYER PROPERTIES 19, TRANSWESTERN 7
TSP continued its impressive march to the playoffs with slaughter-rule vic over Tranwestern. Eightof TSP’s hitters contributed with ribbies. Despite two consecutive errors that were responsible for four unearned runs, TSP turned the first triple play of the year and maybe in DRESL history.

FIELD 4: INLAND 23, JLL TWO 9
A thoroughly convincing win for Inland, which guarantees them a first-round playoff berth and their first playoff game ever.

FIELD 5: KLEIN’S 18, COLLIERS 8
In the battle of defenders, Klein’s came out on top with everyone in the field playing flawlessly, cutting off potential extra base hits, turning timely double plays and cutting down lead runners. Just a beautiful performance by all. Big hitters for Klein’s were Russ Steinberg, 3-5, two runs scored; Matt Schiffler 4-4, three runs scored one ribbie; Bisnow Player of the Week Tom Berarducci, 4-4, four ribbies, three runs and great D at the hot corner; Gold Glove first baseman Peter Balyeat, 3-4, three rib eyes, three runs scored; and Richie Klein, with three of the cheapest on base at bats ever and two runs scored.

FIELD 6: GOLUB 27, CTK PARTNERS 6
It was a lopsided vic for the incredibly ringered up Golub squad. Before the Kritters knew what hit them, the Goo Goos were up 19-0 after the first and 23-zip after two. Head man Lee Golub stretched two dingers into triples and short center ringer Soup Campbell had a good day defensively.

FIELD 7: JLL ONE 12, CBRE 11
It was a good old-fashioned barnburner for the long-time foes. Hitting stars for JLL: Josh Vervack went 4-4 with a HR, 3B, three RBI and three runs scored, keying all four of JLL’s big rally innings. Scott Moore was 4-4 (all key hits) with a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Phil Geiger was 1-2 with two SACs and four RBI from the clean-up spot and Bill Rogers 3-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
