3 Cool Cribs

The first wave of cool cribs are in. On tap: indoor basketball fit for the Bulls, space-constrained brokers grinding it out in style, and artsy elegance.

1) J.C. ANDERSON

Interior general contractor J.C. Anderson knows balling is the best way to unwind after a hard day's work. The Elmhurst-based company was established in 1879 and the game of basketball followed soon after in 1891 (so these guys go way back with the great James Naismith). When they're not crafting corporate interiors, the team heads out on the hardwood to perfect their jump shots. Keep an eye out--you may spot one of them in the slam drunk contest at All-Star Weekend.

2) CHICAGO REALTY COMPANY

Chicago Realty Company's office may only be 1,000 SF, but its dreams are boundless and it operates in style. Founded in 2004, the boutique CRE brokerage worked with furniture dealer Office Revolutions to design its new office in the Civic Opera House--call it a modern space in a classic building. Prez David Ariola tells us the company designed the office to show clients what is possible with a small space. And the pop of red is very fashion forward.

3) ALTER GROUP

Skokie-based Alter Group is a patron of the arts, outfitting its cool crib HQ with a rotating art collection for the last 10 years (we plan to submit our finger paintings for review). Focusing on non-traditional pieces from local artists, Alter is currently featuring unique pieces by Mark J. Palmeri. The company also works with Arts of Life (a community that provides adults with developmental disabilities an environment to experience personal growth) and pieces dreamed up by its members line the hallways.
