City leaders expect to hear any day whether the feds will award Charlotte a $25M grant to help finish the $37M first leg of a streetcarline connecting uptown to points east. |
The streetcar would connect eastern sections of Charlotte (and about time) to the light rail lines, which run north and south. The initial line would run about 1.5 miles from Time Warner Cable Arena to Presbyterian Hospital, according to folks at the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS). The remaining $12M needed would come from various existing municipal sources, including property, sales, and auto tax revenues. |
