| We snapped Extell Development prez Gary Barnett in the One57 sales office last week, where he said the property, destined to be Manhattan's tallest residential building (90 stories, over 1,000 feet in case you wanna high five any birds) has 30 units signed or out for signature. The building at 157 W 57th St (across from Carnegie Hall) will open in the second half of next year with 95 condos and a 210-key Park Hyatt. |
| Architect Christian de Portzamparc (right, with interior designer Thomas Juul-Hansen), whose credits include The City of Music in Paris and Hergé Museum in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, says he was inspired by sculptor Alberto Giacometti, whose work always seemed to be headed in a direction, going somewhere. When Gary heard Giacometti was "involved," he laughs, the thing heading somewhere would be prices—going up, of course. Christian also has long been a fan of Central Park's man-and-nature dynamic. |
| Thomas' design, he says, is all about space and light—and the views (really, lady, how can she sleep through that?). A certain number of square feet, though, doesn't have to mean you fit in as many bedrooms as possible. Elsewhere, a 3,200 SF unit might hold five bedrooms. At One57, that footprint holds three bedrooms. And the master bath sizes, he says, are something he's never seen in a new build before—only in designs for private clients. |
