Third Time’s The Charm? Old Boston Globe HQ Finds New Buyer

For the third time since 2015, the 16.5-acre Dorchester property that used to house the Boston Globe is under agreement for a sale.

The Burlington-based Nordblom Co. signed a contract Tuesday to acquire the complex, and the deal is expected to close this fall, the Boston Business Journal reports. While no price was given, the five competing bidders for the site each offered more than the $70M viewed as a potential purchase price. Nordblom has built and owned several suburban office and shopping developments in Greater Boston, including the Wegmans-anchored 3rd Ave in Burlington.

The surrounding stretch of Morrissey Boulevard has attracted several high-profile sales recently. Beacon Capital Partners purchased the 14-acre Two Morrissey Blvd. for $41.5M, and Center Court Partners bought the old Channel 56 television studio next to the Globe property for $14.5M.

Center Court had tried to acquire the Globe site, but backed out of an $80M deal in May. Concord-based Winstanley Enterprises failed to close a deal on the property in 2015.

The Boston Globe moved its newsroom and corporate operations from Dorchester to 53 State St. downtown in June.
