Anika Therapeutics extended the lease on its 134k SF global headquarters earlier this month, Bisnow has learned through a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The 120-employee Bedford biotech company's $7.6M lease extension through 2022 adds to revived interest in the Route 128 tech corridor over the escalating prices of Cambridge and the Seaport.

In 2007, Anika moved from Woburn to its current location at 32 Wiggins Ave. after the property was vacated by Millipore — now a subsidiary of Merck. Anika initially signed an $8.3M, 10.5-year lease and completed a $30M renovation on the building to fit both its corporate headquarters and its manufacturing operations for products used to treat osteoarthritis. The company's stock has hit record highs in recent years as it has produced new viscosupplements. This is the first of four lease extension options articulated in the original 2007 lease.
