Hartford can sleep easy tonight. Reports surfaced last week in both the Boston Business Journal and the Hartford Courant saying officials with Aetna were poking around Boston looking for office space for a new corporate headquarters. However, it appears the insurance giant’s blocked merger with Humana has stopped that. The Boston Herald reports talks with Gov. Charlie Baker, who led the wooing efforts, have died down.

Boston leaders, whom Baker identified in his State of the Commonwealth as being vital to bringing GE to the city from Fairfield, Conn., have not been included in the monthslong recruitment. It was reported the company had been looking at sites ranging from 150k SF to 400k SF for its HQ. Aetna has had a presence in Massachusetts since September of last year when it opened a Wellesley consumer business hub run by Gary Loveman, former president and CEO of Caesars Entertainment.
