| Novartis is doing it again. Next year, it will kick-off construction that will transform this parking lot across the street from one of its first Cambridge facilities into a $600M, 400k SF complex of labs, offices and retail, the company announced this week. The biopharmaceutical firm, which moved its world research HQ from Basel to Kendall Square a few years ago, already occupies 1M SF and has a staff of 2,000 in "our fair city." The new facility will add another 300 people to its Phd-laiden workforce in Cambridge where it is the largest corporate employer. The five-year development project at 181 Mass. Ave will be on land that Novartis is leasing from MIT, whose campus is just a few blocks away. |
