950 people. That's the tally from three simultaneous Breakfast & Schmoozez we had Tuesday in DC, Atlanta, and Chicago. Above, at the Willard in DC, Federal Realty Investment Trust CEO Don Wood describes America at our First Annual Retail Summit. To which General Growth Properties CEO-designate Sandeep Mathrini responds that he actually thinks the Northeast is "under-retailed." (Sure it is. They can still put a Saks on Avenues One through Four.)
Around the same time (but different time zone) in Chicago, at 155 N. Wacker, we held our Bisnow Capital Markets breakfast. The equity panel featured White Oak Realty's Rick Blum, Bentall Kennedy's Shobi Khan, The John Buck Co's Blake Johnson,and Tishman Speyer's Casey Wold, with Avison Young's Jim Solomon moderating. Casey heavily implied that the sale of 353 N. Clark would close this week for $350M—a far cry from its $650M neighbor at 300 N. LaSalle. Shobi reported a better-than-expected year, where he placed $900M in equity, almost double the $500M anticipated.
And in Atlanta (Eastern time zone but a more relaxed pace), the General Services Administration was outlining its plans to achieve Zero Environmental Impact on government buildings . . .one day. Until then, the GSA is pursuing a policy of net zero carbon emissions on its buildings, said GSA's Brian Kimsey at our Sustainability Summit at the Westin Buckhead. And the GSA will be piloting buildings for clients that are on the path to net zero over time, including a new federal building in South Florida.
