A Dallas developer is heading back to one of Midtown Atlanta's influential development bodies for a second go at a proposed apartment tower behind the historic Saint Mark United Methodist Church.

StreetLights Residential is returning to the Midtown Development Review Committee Aug. 13 to seek its blessing for a 26-story mixed-use apartment tower at the corner of Juniper and Fifth streets.

In June, the board told StreetLights to go back to the drawing board on its exterior design and work on a revamp along with the Atlanta City Studio, an arm of the city's planning department tasked with focusing on the design of private projects in the city. The division was established in 2016.

It was unclear as of press time how StreetLights changed the design of its proposal or whether it worked with the planning department on it. Emails to StreetLights officials were not returned as of press time, and officials with Midtown Alliance said the developer has yet to submit any new renderings.

But the description of the project itself has not changed from the previous one: 299 market-rate apartments in 19 stories above a seven-story parking deck. Parishioners of Saint Mark will have the right to use 150 of the spaces, a primary goal of the church. Church officials previously told Bisnow it intended to use the land for surface parking but was prohibited from doing so by the city.

While the Midtown DRC's decisions are not binding, recommendations by the board carry heavy influence with the Atlanta City Council, which will ultimately approve or reject the proposal.
