You win some, you lose some... and unfortunately, Atlanta is experiencing the latter. We learned that a decision by Canada-based Cascades to open a manufacturing facility in North Carolina means Atlanta is now out of the running. Cascades, which makes paper products like tissues, announced in August that it was buying a 1.4M SF facility in New Wagram for a plant to produce tissue. The firm had been eyeing sites along I-85 (and other areas of the Southeast) for the project, says Cascades' Hugo D'Amours, but ultimately chose NC for its $60M-plus investment.
But it's not all bad news. Lincoln Property Co announced it's developing a 111k SF distribution center at the Airport West Distribution Center for Chick-fil-A. The chicken eatery will occupy the facility starting in January on a long-term lease. Lincoln's Denton Shamburger (on right with Tony Bartlett and Leigh Braswell) brokered the deal for Morgan Stanley. Chick-fil-A will now occupy more than 200k SF at Airport West after its 2011 deal, which we reported here.
