Atlanta-based T5 Data Centers is making more room for your selfies in Douglas County.

The data center developer just purchased 40 acres off Interstate 28 west of Atlanta and south of Mableton. On the site, T5 plans to develop a 10-megawatt, 130K SF data center aimed at attracting a hyperscale user, company officials said.

“Atlanta has proven itself to be a growing market for enterprise-class data center users,” T5 CEO Pete Marin said in a release. “These discerning companies continue to be attracted to Atlanta by the inexpensive and reliable power, easy access, a talented workforce and competitive tax incentives.”

T5 already operates the 105K SF T5@Atlanta data center in Alpharetta, developed in 2011. The company also has extra land next to what it is calling T5@Atlanta II for a second, 10 MW data center in the future.

The company is looking to catch the wave of big data users eyeing Atlanta for data center space, especially since the state offers some of the lowest power costs in the country.

Douglas County has seen an increase in activity as a result. This past year, Las Vegas-based Switch announced plans for a 1M SF data center campus there.

The need for data is growing, especially as more and more appliances and vehicles get wired into the internet, McKesson said.

“It's a little bit sci-fi, but it's closer than we think,” he said.
