With spring break for many of Metro Atlanta's biggest school systems over, the traffic conundrum as a result of the Interstate 85 bridge collapse is in full effect, with MARTA seeing many of its lots full and ridership skyrocketing as commuters try to avoid the highways.
Commute times on the second full day of a regular workweek in Atlanta saw 45 minutes from downtown to Sandy Springs and drive times of more than an hour to northern suburbs like Alpharetta and Duluth, Curbed Atlanta reports.
Alternative transportation systems are responding to the situation with Uber offering a flat fare program for $2.49 per ride to various points in the metro area. And MARTA has even created an app for live status updates on parking availability, as commuter lots fill beyond capacity.
The Georgia Department of Transportation expects to complete the repairs to I-85 by this summer.
