YESTERDAY’S PIER POWER; PWC ON TRANSPORTATION
Bisnow was on hand at Chelsea Piers yesterday afternoon, where ConEdison Solutions recognized its top green commercial customers with an awards ceremony. It announced that Chelsea Piers—the country’s largest sports and entertainment complex—now ranks as its top customer in the NYC area, using 100% wind power(that blew us away!)

ConEdison Solutions CEO Jorge Lopez, Community Energy CEO Brent Alderfer, City Council speaker Christine Quinn, and Chelsea Piers co-founder David Tewksbury were on hand for the celebration, lighting a ceremonial green apple. (Will the city eventually be re-nicknamed “The Big Green Apple” with all its sustainable initiatives?) Chelsea Piers alone offsets 13.6k metric-tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equal to taking 2,850 cars off the road or planting 12,250 acres of trees.

Among the real estate honorees were the General Service Administration’s Louis Lozito, Richard Jobsky, and Brian Magden; Sherwood Equities’ Jared Gramstrup; and Wyndham Worldwide’s Carolyn Mesce, Leonard Baratta, and Ana Aznar-Meyer. Below, Jorge presents an award to Community Housing Innovation’s Alec Roberts, who develops affordable housing around Westchester and Long Island.

Christine talks sustainability with the event’s special guests, fourth and fifth-graders from Chelsea’s P.S. 11. The students created sculptures and other works of art from garbage and materials that were collected from a clean-up of Chelsea Piers, which were on display. (More photos).
