Online Retail Sales Top $5B On Black Friday

After record online sales on Black Friday, there will be plenty of brown paper packages tied up with string this holiday seasonand they will likely contain best-selling electronics like Apple iPads, Samsung 4k TVs, Apple MacBook Airs, LG TVs and Microsoft Xboxs.

Using data from 23 billion visits on retail websites from the top 100 US retailers, Adobe shows consumers spent more than $5B on Black Friday, an 18% year-over-year growth. About $3.3B of that was holiday sales and $1.9B was Thanksgiving sales.

For the first time in history, sales made from mobile devices (including tablets) reached $1.2B in a 24-hour period, a 33% leap from 2015. This year, mobile devices accounted for 45% of online visits and tablets accounted for 10%.

Higher sales transactions came via shopper helper sites such as RetailMeNot and CNET, email, display and social media.
