SAN FRANCISCO: Industrial Fit for Amazon

When in Rome, yadda yadda yadda. And when in the Bay Area, do as Amazon does. Westcore is prepping to build a state-of-the-art industrial center in Fremont; the 350k SF, LEED-certified industrial complex's quality will be in line with the 600k SF Cherry Logistics Center that Amazon just fully leased in Newark, Westcore CEO Don Ankeny tells us. The project's been a long time coming; his firm bought the current, aging complex on Kato Road in the spring of 2012, waiting on tenants to vacate before demolition. (Now, that's courtesy.) Don hopes to start demo work in the next six to eight months, which means the project could be done toward the end of 2015. When it delivers, there won't be much like it in that market, he says, as the competing product is much older.
