The U.S. labor market performed more strongly than estimated in June, driven by an increase in employment in the healthcare sector.

Employers added 222,000 new jobs during the month, beating Bloomberg’s median estimate of economic forecasters' figure of 170,000. Unemployment remained unchanged at 4.4%, a lower-than-average figure on a historic basis, the Labor Department reported Friday morning.

The healthcare sector added the most jobs, 37,000, compared to an average monthly gain of 24,000 so far this year.

In spite of jobs growth wages remained relatively flat, up 0.2% compared to the previous month.
