Chinese investments in US business hit a record $15B in 2016, with the majority hitting California—although the funds are getting spread more and more throughout the country into hospitality, auto-making and other sectors.

According to a study by the National Committee on US-China Relations, capital flight from China, spurred by the country’s slowdown, is set to break another record in 2016—at over $5B already—as investors head to the relative safe haven of US shores, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The flow of yuan into the US has had serious benefits. Since 2000 China has sent $59B into the US, buying or creating more than 1,900 companies that employ 90,000 workers. [LAT]
