Salford Crescent: the masterplan

A 30-storey apartment tower is part of detailed proposals for the University of Salford campus, revealed ahead of public consultations this week.

The proposals, devised by 5plus Architects, and promoted by the University and Salford City Council, include:

  • a 30-storey residential tower at Salford Crescent next to a "revitalised" Salford Central railway station. The indicative drawings show two towers, one of which could be for innovation sector use.
  • the demolition of low-rise buildings and creation of "much larger flexible buildings which respond to market needs for industry, technology and process driven markets." The drawings indicate a skyscraper tower.
  • town houses and 260 apartments at Adelphi.
  • the conversion of the University's Adelphi House to residential use.
  • 700 new student housing units.

There would also be improved and extended sports facilities; a conference centre and hotel; new food and drink around the Old Fire Station; and an emphasis on culture and the arts to create a world class destination.
