Airbnb May Soon Be Regulated In LA

Short-term rentals like Airbnb may soon be regulated by the City of LA.

The LA Planning Commission just voted to approve rules requiring anyone who lists their residence to file an application with the City of LA and pay taxes.

Until now, hosts have not had to register with the city.

There would be limits on how long rentals could last and what types of places could be rented, according to Curbed.

Critics have argued Airbnb is problematic, especially in LA because of the negative impact short-term rentals have had on the already tight housing market.

The LA City Council is expected to weigh in on the issue next before possibly adopting it. [Curbed]
