Croyden Partnership submitted a planning application for the £1.4B regeneration of the Whitgift shopping centre. A JV between Westfield and Hammerson hopes to create one of the UK’s premier shopping and entertainment centres that will spur regeneration of the town.

Plans call for 1.5M SF of new retail including well-known high street brands as well as smaller independent shops anchored by a new Marks & Spencer, a covered public walkway and up to 600 new homes. New leisure activities would include a multi-screen cinema and a bowling alley.

A decision is expected early next year. Construction would begin in 2018, and completion would be in 2021.
