Sussex's Ugliest Building To (Finally) Be Redeveloped

Placeholder

Brighton’s ugliest building will finally be demolished after First Base received planning approval to level the old Anston House and replace it with 229 modern flats.

The plan was approved even with harsh criticism that the new scheme will provide only 13% affordable housing, according to Brighton & Hove News. The development spans three towers between 13 and 15 storeys and three smaller blocks totaling 229 flats. A café and flexible office space rounds out the project, which is expected to spur 280 new jobs and bring in £1.3M in funding for schools and transport.

The current building is derelict and has been vacant for 30 years. First Base and Hyde Housing plan to start building early next year and to complete work in 2019. [BHN]
