Houston developer MetroNational is restarting construction of a 190K SF Class-A office building in Memorial City.

The building at 9753 Katy Freeway is now expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2023 after originally breaking ground in February 2020 and being placed on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. At that time, it was set for a summer 2021 completion and was touted as one of the largest office projects under construction in Houston, Bisnow reported previously.

MetroNational said in a release that it has taken the time from the pandemic to revamp the design, which was done by Kirksey Architecture. The nine-story property will include a first-floor restaurant, retail space and access to the Lawn at Memorial City.

MetroNational is marketing the property, in part, on its proximity to Memorial City Mall.

“When an office tenant walks outside of 9753, they will have immediate access to restaurants, entertainment and outdoor amenities that they can enjoy before, during and after office hours,” MetroNational President Jason Johnson said in a release. “Our main priority as we envisioned the post-pandemic work environment was ensuring that we kept the public connected through community-driven experiences.”

The new office is next to The McKinley at Memorial City, MetroNational's 332K SF multifamily property. The 278-unit property was designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects and was completed in July 2021.
