Oliver Kummerfeldt is the Head of European Real Estate Research at Schroders Capital, Schroders dedicated private assets business line, providing research, insights, and forecasts for commercial real estate markets across Europe. In this position, he helps to develop Schroders investment strategy and assists leadership, transaction- and asset managers in decision making. He joined Schroders in 2014 and is based in London. Before joining Schroders, Oliver was an Associate Director at Jones Lang LaSalle (now JLL), where, between 2006 and 2014, he held various roles in the EMEA Real Estate Research team in Hamburg and London. Oliver is a member of the Investment Property Forum (IPF) and a member and former chair of the Society of Property Researchers (SPR). He studied economics, law and geography at Hamburg University and holds the German “Diplom” degree in geography.

Miloš Halečka is Innovation Director at MiddleCap, an investment and real estate company with a focus on innovative and cutting-edge office schemes. Miloš has been instrumental in developing smart technologies for MiddleCap’s BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ flagship building Southworks, which was named ‘the world’s smartest office’ in 2021. He believes that the real estate sector is on the brink of a new era where data and technologies start to play a role as important as bricks and mortar have for centuries. Miloš’ responsibilities include finding technological solutions to current challenges in the real estate sector such as user comfort, hybrid working or climate change – from finding the right technologies for smart buildings to establishing ESG policies for MiddleCap’s operations and product creation.

Matt is a Senior Strategist within LGIM’s Real Assets Research and Strategy team. Matt is responsible for market research, influencing strategic operational initiatives and guiding investment strategy in the retail, leisure and hotel sectors, whilst also being responsible for research into key thematic areas, including transition risk, operational research and emerging Alternatives sectors.

Matt joined LGIM Real Assets in 2018, having spent over seven years at specialist retail and leisure consultancy, CACI, where he held the title of Managing Consultant and was Head of Leisure consultancy. At CACI, Matt worked with over 45 retail and leisure operators to inform their property and customer acquisition strategies.

Luke joined Pi Labs from the University of Oxford’s Future of Real Estate Initiative. He has conducted research on disruptive PropTech innovations, property investment, data issues, environmental sustainability, as well as social issues impacting the asset class. His background also includes entrepreneurship and start-up advisory in Europe, Africa, and Australia.

Luke’s interdisciplinary studies include a Bachelor of Commerce (Property) from Western Sydney University and an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford. He has also studied postgraduate economics, change management and psychology at the University of New South Wales and Monash University.

Dan Pagella is Senior Director, Asset Management responsible for the co-

ordination and implementation ARC’s Business Plan at Asset level. He brings a

particular passion for creating and managing collaborative, engaging

environments that attract and retain the brightest minds needed to achieve the

commercial and scientific ambitions of ARC’s members. Dan has over 20 years’ experience of delivering complex, varied and constrained

projects with a broad range of stakeholders and interested parties. His

experience ranges from managing the continued delivery of a 20-year

masterplan for the provision of over 4 million square feet of employment space

alongside education, housing, healthcare, and retail facilities, to the creation of

serviced office and incubator laboratory concepts for Arlington and ARC

respectively.

Dace plays a significant part in increasing investment into the North of England and help the region achieve ambitions aligned to levelling up priorities focussing on the Life Sciences sector.

Dace works closely with overseas businesses, matching them to opportunities and supporting and advising them on setting up or expanding their business in the north. Dace works with both new and existing investors and wins investment by:

John joined CWG in August 2023 as Chief Investment Officer having previously served at CBRE as Head of Offices EMEA and as Head of Transactions before that. Prior to CBRE, John spent ten years at Hammerson plc. as Group Director leading the team responsible for the London office development and asset management business. John earned a B.Sc. in Estate Management from the University of East London and holds a post graduate diploma in property investment from the Investment Property Forum (IPF). He was elected a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) in 1994 and was made a Fellow (FRICS) in 2012.

Robert Holl is a Principal in the Investment Division at the Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation committed to improving health and funded from a £38 billion global unconstrained investment portfolio. He is responsible for their Commercial Property investments and has broad experience across direct and indirect assets across a range of property sectors including strategic land, life sciences, student accommodation, and hotels in private and public markets. Robert join Wellcome in 2012, he is a CFA charterholder and qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte at the start of his career.

Roshni is a Senior Investment Manager in the Department for Business and Trade, focused on increasing international investment into UK Science & Innovation Real Estate opportunities. The Department offers promotional support and advice for projects that are seeking external investment. Prior to this, she spent four years as Senior Innovation Policy Advisor in what was then the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, including delivering the 2021 UK Innovation Strategy publication and Spending Review settlement for innovation.

Trevor is a Preconstruction Director within the Construction Business Unit of Bouygues UK, based in London. A Chartered Surveyor with a keen interest in innovation and sustainability, he has amassed more than 40 years’ experience across all aspects of the construction industry, including Higher Education and Healthcare. Trevor now spearheads Bouygues’ growing presence in the Science and Research sector. He has played a key role in helping to finesse the Company’s business strategy, working closely with laboratory and clean room specialists Bouygues Energies & Services and development management colleagues at Linkcity to develop and promote a distinct and differentiated offering to the market.

Sophie joined Canary Wharf Group as Director,

Sustainability in December 2021 with responsibility to

develop the strategy and champion the transition for the

group.

Sophie has previously led sustainability across the UK

for the regional and specialist businesses within Balfour

Beatty, the UK’s largest contractor. Sophie has also

spent time in the retail industry where she led

programmes to deliver sustainable outcomes in the Far

East. With experience in a variety of roles and sectors,

Sophie firmly believes that the private sector has a key

role to play in responding to the climate crisis.

Fatos Peja is Design Principal for HDR’s UK architectural practice. He is a registered architect with over

20 years’ experience in the design and procurement of large complex life science and technology projects

globally and locally in the UK including the multi award winning Plowright Building at the Pirbright

Institute. His portfolio includes high containment laboratories, research & development facilities,

healthcare, workplace, and semi-conductor manufacturing facilities. He focuses on elegant design

solutions to complex technical challenges which he sees as a critical component in the completion of a

successful project, while embracing inclusivity, environmental responsibility, and social value. Fatos is

also active in industry groups has served for over 10 year as a Board Director of the American Institute of

Architects in the UK Chapter as well as a President in 2017.

Barbara is responsible for the development of the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus at UKRI-STFC. She

has worked alongside the Joint Venture partners to establish Harwell as an exemplar public-private partnership

model that has driven economic growth, fostered national and international collaborations, attracted inward

investment, and advanced the frontiers of science.

Barbara has established the cluster model deployed at both STFC’s Harwell and Daresbury Science & Innovation

Campuses and oversees their development. She has led the creation of six thriving innovation clusters in Space,

HealthTec, EnergyTec, Digital and a new in Quantum, across the two sites. These now include over 300

organisations collocated on the campuses, with average staff growth of more than 20% per annum and

supporting more than 400 organisations across the U.K.

Barbara joined STFC in 2010 as Executive Director of Business Development. Successes included the creation

of the International Space Innovation Centre (now Satellite Applications Catapult) at Harwell and the securing the

first multi-million investment into the High Performance Computing Centre (Hartree) at Daresbury.

Barbara joined STFC from EADS Astrium (now Airbus DS), where she managed Business Development across

Europe for the €3.2 billion joint ESA / EU Earth Observation Programme for Global Monitoring of Environment

and Security (now Copernicus). She secured a number of large contracts during her time at Astrium. Barbara

graduated in Electronic Engineering at the University of York, completed her PhD in Artificial Intelligence and

Space Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging at the University of Sheffield and holds a Certificate in Management

from the Open University.

She is also a Board Member at the Rosalind Franklin Institute and Chief Scientific Advisor to Advanced Research

Clusters (ARC), Brookfield Asset Management.

Rob Burborough is a partner at 3PM with over 25 years in the science and technology sector. He is a specialist in this sector, and has led projects from all science backgrounds. Rob has collaborated extensively with science park owners in the UK and USA (including Discovery Park, Sandwich; The Oxford Science Park, Oxford; Granta Park, Great Abington; Babraham Institute, Babraham; Biomed, Granta Park, Cambridge; Chesterford Research Park, Saffron Walden).

More recently, Rob has been engaged by several organisations to advise at a strategic business case and operational execution level for private companies in respect of the investment opportunities, governance and execution strategies, and ecosystem formation for investment and future growth potential. He has been engaged to act as strategic advisor in support of the operational execution of the growth plans of venture-capital-funded private companies in the pre-revenue commercial science sector as they move from a new-company to a mature business model.

Rob has been appointed as expert panel advisor to the ISCF (Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund), focusing on core innovation and energy-efficient buildings, and is considered an industry expert in the project, programme and portfolio management of complex science and technology projects throughout the UK and globally.

Rob continues to work very closely with the UK research councils (including UK Research and Innovation, Innovate UK and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council).

Matt is a Partner in the Offices and Life Sciences Team where he heads up the occupational agency team responsible for the running of various large scale development projects and existing buildings across the Golden Triangle and South East. Responsibilities include providing strategic development advice for land acquisitions and the negotiation of lettings and sales.

Matt stated his surveying career at Brown Cooper Marples in 2005. He joined Blackstone’s BioMed Realty in 2019 to become the market lead and Director of Leasing for their 1,000,000 sq ft portfolio in the UK. Matt joined DTRE as a Partner in 2022, responsible for the running of the Office and Life Science Agency team. Since he joined the team has grown to 5 surveyors and expanded the instruction base include instructions covering the Golden Triangle ranging from Canary Wharf to Abingdon. The team is now involved in projects totaling in excess of 2.75m sq ft.

Matt has focused on the Landlord / Developer side of the industry and has worked with numerous market leading clients including BioMed Realty, Mission Street, LS Estates, Oaktree Capital Management, Kadans Science Partner, Longfellow Real Estate Partners, Great Portland Estates, Tristan Capital, and Railpen,

Matt holds a BEng (Hons) from the University of Leeds, an MSc from London South Bank University and is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

He is also a member of the ULI European Life Science and Healthcare Council.

Mairi leads ecosystem development for Canary Wharf Life Sciences. Canary Wharf is already home to over 40 life science and healthcare businesses and CL2/CL3 labs. We aspire to become a globally recognised life science ecosystem in East London.

Mairi has a wealth of experience in early-stage tech fundraising, project management and outward facing relationship building (public and private sector). She began her career in major government-sponsored infrastructure projects before moving into the innovation and entrepreneurship landscape. As Head of Operations for a venture capital backed bio-tech start-up, she gained broad business experience bringing a product to market and fundraising both in the U.K. and abroad. Through her roles within the Catapult Network, Smart Specialisation Hub, Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Network and most recently, establishing and leading Kadan’s national ecosystem strategy, Mairi has built a deep understanding of how to link the research, commercial and investment worlds.

A Design Principal with expertise in complex mixed-use, technology office, life science and academic projects that drive innovation in urban centres. His work is sensitive to human scale, urban context, and sustainable practices.

Elie’s portfolio includes innovation districts; lab and tech-office buildings; and academic and research facilities in the UK, US, Europe and China. Since relocating to London, Elie has brought a global perspective to the design of a new campus masterplan for King’s College London; an office and laboratory building for Guys & St Thomas at London Bridge and the design of Europe’s largest commercial lab, One North Quay at Canary Wharf.

Mike is UK editor of Bisnow. Before this, alongside three friends he bought pan-European property mag EuroProperty out of non-existence and re established it before selling the business to PropertyEU. Prior to that he was editor of Property Week, and has also worked for Estates Gazette.

Professor Sir Mark Caulfield is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Queen Mary University of

London and the Vice Principal for Health for Queen Mary’s Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Professor Caulfield graduated in Medicine in 1984 from the London Hospital Medical College and

trained in Clinical Pharmacology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital where he developed a research

programme in molecular genetics of hypertension and translational clinical research.

At Queen Mary University of London Professor Caulfield has made substantial contributions to the

discovery of genes related to blood pressure, cardiovascular health, cancer and rare diseases. His

research has changed national and international guidance for high blood pressure. He was Director

of Queen Mary’s William Harvey Research Institute between 2002-2020 and was elected to the

Academy of Medical Sciences in 2008.

He has won the Lily Prize of the British Pharmacology Society, the Bjorn Folkow Award of the

European Society of Hypertension 2016 and the Franz Volhard Award of the International Society of

Hypertension in 2018.

Professor Caulfield was appointed Chief Scientist for Genomics England in 2013, charged with

delivery of the 100,000 Genomes Project on whole genome sequencing in rare disease, cancer and

infection. At Genomics England, he was instrumental in delivering the 100,000 Genomes Project

which has delivered life-changing results for many patients. He has also worked with NHS England to

co-create the National Genomic Test Directory, which offers equitable access for 56 million people

to appropriate genomic tests. Professor Caulfield was awarded a knighthood in 2019 for his

leadership of the 100,000 Genomes Project.

He is a member of the Barts Health NHS Trust Board, the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University

Hospitals NHS Trust, the MedCity Board and is the President Elect of the British Pharmacological

Society.

Catherine Byers joined Genomics England (GEL) as Chief Transformation Officer on 26th May 2020, and became Chief Finance + Performance Officer in 2021.

Catherine has over sixteen years’ experience in government, working in the Department of Health and Social Care, the Office for Lifesciences, in Cabinet Office and with No10. Catherine was also Head of NHS Finance at DHSC from 2016-2019, and led on Lab Capacity in the DHSC Covid19 Testing Programme in Spring 2020. She also has experience of Genomics England, having worked with the organisation in 2014 during the 100,000 Genomes Project. Catherine brings a wealth of expertise in government finance, policy, programme management, governance and stakeholder management.

Catherine leads the finance, estates, quality, and performance teams at GEL, and works closely with the Chief People Officer to lead all the operational teams at the centre of the business.

Guy joined Piercy&Company in 2012. He was promoted to associate in 2018, and studio director in 2022. He has expertise in leading large-scale residential, commercial, and mixed use developments, and in working collaboratively alongside other design professionals as part of strategic master-plans and place-making projects. He has played a key role in the successful design and delivery of a range of projects for the studio.

Guy is leading Regent Quarter at King’s Cross for Endurance Land and Nan Fung. The heritage and public-realm led masterplan for the 3.5 acre site is part of the client’s ten-year vision to revitalise the estate and create a vibrant new urban quarter for London. Phase 2 is currently underway to extend and refurbish three existing buildings - Jahn Court, Times House and Laundry Buildings - to create a trio of new life science buildings for London’s Knowledge Quarter.

Guy was project lead for two residential buildings at Harrow View East for Barratt London, and a series of market and affordable residential buildings for Phases 3 and 5 of East Wick & Sweetwater at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for Balfour Beatty and Places for People. Other projects include Skipton House - a sustainable refurbishment and extension of an existing office building for London&Regional, North Kensington Library - a new civic building for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and Two Tabernacle Street - a RIBA award-winning office building in Islington for Durley Investment Corporation.

Guy is a graduate of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability in Leadership for the Built Environment. He is helping to lead the studio’s efforts to engage with issues around sustainability and resilience, including the organisation of internal training and expert design clinics, continued review of internal design strategies and progressing the studio’s applications for UKGBC Net Zero and Science-based Targets accreditation.

Guy leads Piercy&Company’s cultural programme of events and invited lectures. This recently culminated in staging ‘Supermodels’, an exhibition of innovative architectural models that sought to engage architectural ideas with a wider audience. It received extensive coverage in both national and international design press.

Outside of his professional work he has exhibited work at arts festivals both in the UK and abroad, and has been an invited design critic at the Bartlett School of Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design, the University for the Creative Arts, and the SEA, Cape Town.
