V&E Moving From Downtown to Uptown

Texas’ superstar law firm Vinson & Elkins is trading its downtown digs for a posh new uptown skyscraper. Vinson & Elkins' lease will allow Red to break ground on The Union, one of Dallas’ most talked-about new projects. The law firm plans to occupy the top three floors.

Located on Cedar Springs Road in a booming area north of downtown, Red's $200M development is comprised of a dramatic 14-story office tower, a multifamily high-rise, and retail and restaurant space.

Vinson & Elkins managing partner John Wander tells us the big draw for the firm was the mixed-use amenities, including fitness centers, valet parking, sit-down and casual restaurants, an "amenities deck" and a central plaza with a huge water sculpture. He says those amenities, and the Uptown location, are extremely attractive to young talent, critically important in a business that's very dependent on hiring and keeping the best talent.

John tells us about 145 lawyers will make the move; with support staff, it will be 230 to 240 employees.

The Union's expected to open in 2017.
